We’re excited to share this tasty resource for Blender users, released by VFX artist Thomas Marcos, who recently made available for free a procedural cloud shader for Blender.
Compatible with the Eevee and Cycles rendering engines, this lightweight and flexible shader allows you to generate realistic cloud layers without the need for external textures, while maintaining a simple workflow—perfect for both professional and personal use within Blender.
Last week, I dropped a free cloud shader for Eevee and Cycles and we just hit 1000 downloads! ☁️ 🎉

Cloud Shader in Blender for VFX Scenes
With over five years of experience in the VFX industry, including collaborations with Belgian studios benuts and Mac Guff Belgium, Marcos developed this shader to suit a real production environment. The result is a highly efficient, ready-to-use tool, ideal for motion graphics, concept design, and cinematic shots.
During testing for demo animations, the shader showed excellent performance:
- Clouds rendered in Eevee in about 3 minutes per frame
- Terrain rendered in Cycles in 30 seconds per frame
A hybrid approach that balances speed and quality, making the most of both rendering engines.
Requirements and Download
The shader (Procedural Clouds Shader.blend) is compatible with Blender 4.4+ and is completely free. You can download it directly from Thomas Marcos’ Gumroad store. You can enter “€0” for a free download, or support Thomas by leaving a voluntary donation to support the artist’s work.
