The long-awaited Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer (also known as Episode VII) has just debuted online, giving us our very first look at the new characters we’ll meet in the upcoming film directed by J.J. Abrams, set for release next year.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is the first sequel film of the new trilogy. The movie is directed by J.J. Abrams, written by Abrams, Michael Arndt, and Lawrence Kasdan, and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Bad Robot Productions. Currently in production, the film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2015.

George Lucas began working on the story for Episode VII in 2011, with the aim of increasing the commercial value of Lucasfilm Ltd., prior to its sale to The Walt Disney Company on October 30, 2012, the same day the release of the new Episode VII was officially announced.

While the story of Episode VII is still largely unknown, it will not be based on Star Wars Legends. Instead, it will be an original story set after Return of the Jedi.
Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker reprise their iconic roles, alongside a new cast of actors including John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, and many others.
