New MetaHuman Animator feature set to bring easy high-fidelity performance capture to MetaHumans

MetaHuman Animator is a new capability for the digital human creation workflow that will bring fast and easy high-fidelity performance capture to MetaHumans.

Check out the live demonstration that took place on stage at the show, with a performance by actor Melina Juergens (Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice) captured, processed, and output in minutes right before the audience’s eyes.

What is MetaHuman Animator?

MetaHuman Animator is a new tool released by Epic Games, which takes the use of MetaHuman to a higher level, now you will have the ability to use your iPhone or Helmet Mounted Stereo Camera (HMC) to play any facial performance as an animation high fidelity on MetaHuman characters.

With it, you’ll be able to capture the individuality, realism and fidelity of your actor’s performance and transfer every detail and nuance to any MetaHuman to bring it to life in the Unreal Engine.

How to start using MetaHuman Animator?

The power of MetaHuman Animator will be part of the MetaHuman plug-in for Unreal Engine, you will be using an iPhone (iPhone 11 or later), and you will need the free Live Link Face app for iOS, which will be updated with some additional capture modes to support this workflow. For now, we just have to wait. The release date hasn’t been declared yet, but it will be soon in these months by 2023.
