VIEW Conference, the main Italian event dedicated to media and digital technologies, is ready to host from 22 to 26 October a large group of award-winning speakers and artists who will present their work in the field of special effects, virtual reality, musical composition for cinema, art direction, photography, animation, video games and multimedia.

VIEW Conference is not just an international conference, but an opportunity for professional growth. The Master Class program will offer real training moments created by some of the most important experts in the sector, a unique opportunity to compare with international professionals otherwise difficult to reach.

Among the most spectacular keynote speakers involved in 9 lectures (including 5 Academy Awards) of VIEW Conference 2018 we point out Hans Zimmer, composer and record producer known for having integrated the potential of electronic music with traditional orchestral arrangements and for composing scores for more than 150 films, obtaining over 120 awards (Oscar, BAFTA, Grammy, and many others), and over 231 nominations. He is currently working on three other films: “Wonder Woman 1984”, “The Lion King” (live-action version), and “X-Men: Dark Phoenix”.

We can not mention the presence of John Gaeta, Senior Vice President for creative strategies of Magic Leap, specializing in the development of technologies in Mixed Reality, is known for his work on the trilogy of Matrix (which earned him an Oscar and a BAFTA Award), and for being one of the founders of ILMxLAB, the immersive entertainment division of Lucasfilm of which he was also Executive Creative Director.

We will have the good fortune to hear from Dennis Muren, Creative Director of Industrial Light & Magic, a member of the Visual Effects Society (VES) since 2010 and a legendary special effects supervisor. He has won nine Oscars of the category and a good 13 nominations: no one else in this field has been awarded as he was.

Another exceptional guest will be Mireille Soria, President of Paramount Animation, formerly producer of the DreamWorks franchise “Madagascar”, now leading the Paramount Animation division. In 2006, she was nominated by the Producer Guild of America as an “Outstanding Producer”.

Rob Bredow, Senior Vice President, Executive Creative Director and Chief of Industrial, Light & Magic (ILM), was co-producer and general supervisor of the visual effects of “Solo: A Star Wars Story”. Several times a candidate for the VES Awards and one for the Annies.

Dr. Donald Greenberg, Professor Jacob Gould Schurman of digital graphics at Cornell University, is continuing his pioneering research among the most innovative technologies, along with his students. He was honored with numerous honors, including the highest recognition in the field of computer graphics, the Steven Anson Coons Award.

Nora Twomey, director and co-founder of Cartoon Saloon, with her feature film “The Breadwinner” was nominated this year at the Oscars, at the Crystal of Annecy (where she won the Special Prizes of the Audience and the Jury) and the Annies. Previously, she won a public award in Annecy for “The Secret of Kells”, co-directed with her colleague Tomm Moore.

Jan Pinkava, Creative Director of Google Spotlight Stories, won an Oscar as director of the animated short film “The Game of Geri”, a nomination for the screenplay of the feature film “Ratatouille”, and one at the Primetime Emmies 2018 for the interactive program of Google Spotlight’s Stories “Back to the Moon”.

And again: Kim Davidson, founder and CEO of SideFX, winner of an Academy Award in 1998, who this year accepted, on behalf of SideFx, an Oscar for Merit for the creation and development of the Houdini system for Visual Effects and Animation.

The 25th anniversary of the birth of the prehistoric saga of “Jurassic Park”, which began with the eponymous film for which Dennis Muren was Supervisor for Visual Effects, is celebrated. Other Industrial Light & Magic bishops present this year at VIEW will be David Vickery, visual effects supervisor in “Jurassic World: the Destroyed Kingdom”, and Glen McIntosh, ILM Animation Supervisor in the two most recent chapters of the series

The team of Visual Special Effects Supervisors who will unveil the secrets of their work on the major blockbusters and other projects see: Dan Glass (Deadpool 2), Geoffrey Baumann (Black Panther), Bill Watral (Incredibles 2), Matt Aitken (Avengers: Infinity War), Dadi Einarsson (Adrift), Mike Ford (Hotel Transylvania 3), Joao Sita (Image Engine), Jay Worth (HBO), Juri Stanosske (Mackevision) and Karl Herbst (Smallfoot).

 

Among the protagonists of the industry present at VIEW we find Glenn Entis, co-founder of Pacific Data Image (PDI), currently a part-time advisor and consultant for animation companies, video games, and digital media; Aaron Allport, vice president of Art-King; Milan Jovovic, co-founder and director of the Nordeus creative department, Wieke Schrampf, Ijsfontein’s communication manager; Heiko Burkardsmaier, executive producer at Mackevision.

From the world of animation, the VIEW speaker park includes Emmy-winning director Vincent Morisset from the AATOAA Studio; Marino Guarnieri, director of “Gatta Cinderella”, winner of two David di Donatello films; Simone Giampaolo, director of the animation ex Baobab Studios now under Aarman Animation; Alex Williams, director of animation at Escape Studios; Troy Saliba, director of Double Negative animation; Ronald Kurniawan, production designer for “Smallfoot”, and Danielle Feinberg, winner of an Annie, director of photography in “Coco” by Pixar Animation Studios.

Among the storytellers of this edition, to point out Kan Lee, Head of Story by Baobab Studios; David Misch, producer, stand up comedian, and screenwriter; and Emanuela Cozzi, Laika’s storyboard artist.

The platoon of the Art Directors sees deployed Peter Ellis (Epic Games), Nathan Phail-Liff (VEN Award-winning Ready at Dawn), Jan-Bart Van Beek (Guerrilla Games), BAFTA winner as well as Henry LaBounta, senior art director of Electronic Arts.

And here is the line of Creative Directors: Nathan Fox (Sucker Punch Production); Veselin Efremov (Unity Technologies); Marco Invancich, multimedia design manager at the Pininfarina Institute of Turin.

Finally, to crown this exceptional list, Gianni Ricciardi, audio director and music producer of WANT Musik, and Matteo Milani, sound designer for Unidentified Sound Object.
