Cinema 4D Tip: Camera Mapping, Sculpt Tools, Texture

In this video tutorial in the first phase we will see one of the techniques often used in post-production scenes the Camera Mapping using the tools in C4D Camera mapping and sculpt tools. In the tutorial we will see how to apply the image of the head of Russell Crowe on a standard 3D model that apparently is very different from the actor’s face, which will be modified later by adjusting the mesh to the projection using the sculpt tools tool.

Tutorial Part 1 – Cinema 4D Tip: Camera Mapping Russell Crowe’s Head

C4D silent tip 4: part 1 – Camera mapping a head using camera mapping and sculpt tools (NO AUDIO) from Pryce Duncalf on Vimeo.

This tip uses: camera mapping, texture tag, sculpting tools

Here is a very quick and crude example of camera mapping Russell Crowe’s head using the camera mapping setting in the texture tag, and sculpt tools. You would need to spend much more time tweaking and adjusting the sculpt and camera position, but the video should give you an idea of the process. To see the baking process, see part 2 here: vimeo.com/173455418

At Munk Studios we do a lot of camera mapping and are always on the lookout for good camera mapping skills, so if this is something you are good at, please get in touch.

C4D silent tips & spoken tuts is an ongoing series of project breakdowns and short demonstrations showing techniques and tricks used for various different purposes. You will need some kind of knowledge of Cinema 4D to follow what is going on, but the idea is to show how quickly you can solve problems using the C4d toolset. Please let me know what you think or if you have any questions and especially if there is anything you would like me to cover. See more at C4D silent tips & spoken tuts

Tutorial Part 2 – Cinema 4D Tip: Camera Mapping Russell Crowe’s Head

C4D silent tip 4: part 2 – Baking Russell Crowes head from Pryce Duncalf on Vimeo.

This tip uses: camera mapping, texture tag, bake texture tag, photoshop, body paint

To see the camera mapping process, see part 1 here: vimeo.com/173455411

Here is another quick and crude example of baking a camera mapped texture of Russell Crowe’s head using the bake texture tag. This method can be used to fill in the areas that camera mapping can miss using the photoshop stamp tool. Apologies for the appalling photoshop work, this video is purely intended to show the process, in reality, you would spend a lot more time on this.
