Blender 5.0 What’s New

Here we are guys, we’re almost at the release of the new Blender 5.0 version!
We’ve entered the final beta phase and we’re ready with all the new features that once again aim to push creativity forward in modeling and animation.

Blender 5.0 comes with extraordinary functions and tools!
From the renewed UI and color management, to new powerful nodes and modifiers, and updates for compositing and asset workflow, there’s a lot to explore.
Let’s dive in and discover together what makes Blender 5 truly revolutionary.

Blender is the open-source software that does it all: modeling, animation, rendering, simulations, video editing, compositing, motion tracking, and more. Blender 5 is the next version, packed with new features, and it’s expected to be officially released around November 11, 2025.

Blender 5.0 | Nodes Updates You Need To Know About

  1. Improvements to Geometry Nodes & Simulations
    • New Geometry Nodes-based modifiers, better caching, and more powerful nodes
for physical interactions, procedural deformations, and attribute transfers.
    • Simulation inside nodes has also improved — you can now build particle systems,
rigid bodies, and physics setups more flexibly.

Blender 5.0 | New Volume Grid Nodes

  1. New file format / compatibility
    • .blend files created with Blender 5 will not be openable
      with versions earlier than 4.5.
    • New internal limits (e.g. data-block name length increased from 63 to 255 bytes)
to support larger and more complex workflows.

Blender 5.0 Rendering Updates in Cycles and Eevee

Blender 5.0 introduces major updates for Cycles and Eevee, offering more realistic rendering,
faster performance, and new shaders. From improved Subsurface Scattering to the new Thin Film effect
and a Vulkan-based viewport, this release is a big leap forward for 3D artists.

  1. EEVEE Next
    • Complete rewrite of the real-time render engine for higher performance and realism.
Improved reflections, shadows, and global illumination.
    • Preview renders are now more accurate and can be used for lightweight productions.

Blender 5.0 has the new ACES 2.0 View Transform

  1. Support for HDR / Advanced Colors
    • Blender 5 enables HDR displays, new color spaces, and ACES 1.3 and 2.0 views,
plus a new AgX HDR view.
    • Perfect for realistic rendering, VFX, and color grading — offering full control on HDR displays.

Blender 5.0 | Viewport, Interface and Performance

  • Smoother viewport performance even with dense geometry or complex scenes.
  • UI improvements: more consistent menus, new theme, and better time and curve management.

Blender 5.0 | Array Modifier for Motion Design

The new Array tool in Blender 5.0 offers inline, circular, curve, and transformation arrangement options,
along with gizmos for precise control. It includes randomization, offset methods, and animation features.

Blender 5.0 | Anodized Metals Materials

Improvements to thin-film interference in Blender 5.0 allow for optical effects on metals —
ideal for visualizing products with anodized surfaces.

Blender 5.0 | Modeling & UVs Updates

  1. Restrictions and changes to know
    • Official support for Macs with Intel CPUs will be discontinued — Blender 5 will officially support Apple Silicon only.
    • Some older import/export formats or legacy APIs may be deprecated or removed.
